Council President Peter Cunningham: The City in Review and Wednesday's Agenda

This email communication came from City Council President Peter Cunningham.  MSV will present all newsworthy communications from members of the City government.

Good Evening,

Last week the city council met to discuss the potential bonding for the repairs to Sinatra Park and Castle Point Park.  The actions taken last week were extremely important to mitigate further damage as a result of many years of neglect to the City's infrastructure, as well as bring back our waterfront to our citizen's and general public.  We also took the necessary action to consider a budget amendment that would result in a half percent tax reduction.  While the amount is disappointing, we must remember we continue to atone for past mistakes, and many of those costs are budgeted for as they should be.  This is honest 2010 budget with no more trickery as in the past.

Our meeting on Wednesday has several items of interest.  First on the agenda will be the public hearing on the 2010 budget amendment.  Secondly, we have two resolutions on the Memo of Understandings (MOUs) for the police department which were negotiated by the Fiscal Monitor.  Working with counsel and the Mayor's office, I have made these MOUs available on the city's website athttp://www.hobokennj.org/
Please take the time to review these documents.  In light of the recent and on going bipartisian changes in Trenton to curb spending and reign in property taxes your input on the budget and collective bargaining are critically important to our common goal to continue to stabilize the city's finances to effectively release ourselves from State Supervision.

If you cannot attend, please feel free to call me or write with your comments.  Thanks very much for your strict attention to this matter.

Related: Claire Moses of Hoboken.patch.com wrote a preview of Wednesday's City Council meeting.  It's a well done piece and worth a read.  See if you can capture a preview of some familiar sounding tactics.  Confused?  Take a read and it's crystal clear.

Change is coming to New Jersey

The question now is will it be in time?  Based on the Governor's speech today, it's doesn't matter.  He's taking the action on multiple fronts in the budget that should have been acted on years ago.  And that comment is not ours, but by a NJ politico talking about what he heard from NJ State Democrats.  If you have a pulse and are here, and there's a lot of you folks out there, find the time to watch for yourself.  This town has some deep talent and some very empowered individuals.  You are what drives this website.

The last two weeks have seen MSV's visits hit new all time highs.  Have a drink and hang out for a while.  And if you choose, share your thoughts on the issues of the day in Hoboken with your neighbors.  Thanks for dropping by and please tell another friend and/or neighbor.

Important Talking Ed Note

An update to "Where's the tape" story (see below) has been added just after noon today.  For the sake of prominence this post is placed at the top of the website so earlier readers of the story can see the update and make their own conclusions.  MSV has again followed up on the matter and based on yet more revelations decided the matter closed.

Additionally, we did receive an introductory tape and a person reporting the prior month's BoE on the Frank Romano meeting showing the We the people reports in attendance and have been told the last two videos will be made available in a reasonable amount of time.

Please note a commenter, Eyeball earlier made reference to that filming and this answers that question.

This Sunday sees two competing BoE Slate events.  Kids First will start a series of public events held in local parks.  They submitted this announcement:

Then later the same day, the RealResults Kickoff commences at Wild Ginger Restaurant:

The Grafix Avenger has once again weighed in with their uniquely artistic interpretation on the battle, emphasizing some of the entertainment from the last BoE meeting:

I'll say one thing, that Dr. Frank Romano sure does make a good corpse.  Have you ever seen anyone so happy in a coffin?  Oh and peek a boo Lane, we see you.
