Roslyn Rose art show opens at 2 pm

Farewell to Schnackenberg's Original Owners:
The Museum Salutes Dorothy and Mark Novak

After 81 years serving up warm hospitality, home-style cooking and delicious, whimsical chocolates, Dorothy and Mark Novak are passing on their family's labor of love, Schnackenberg's Luncheonette, to new management. Come out today between noon and 2 pm to say farewell and let them know they'll be missed.
The luncheonette's vintage decor has been captured in a high-resolution "gigapan" panoramic photo. Follow this link to explore: Schnackenberg's gigapan.

Art Show opening today, 2-5pm
"Hoboken from Afar" by Roslyn Rose

Come meet artist Roslyn Rose, a New Jersey native and longtime Hoboken resident, who returns to the Museum with her second art exhibit for a six-week show. The show opens today with a free reception from 2 - 5 pm.

This show features photo montages inspired by her travels abroad. The foregrounds of her artworks include slides, photos, and found pictures that she collected while traveling in Europe, which are digitally superimposed upon images she’s taken of familiar Hoboken sights. The resulting depictions, which will be on display through Nov. 4, convey the odd sensation of looking through foreign windows and doors onto familiar vistas of home.

“During my European travels, I always seemed to meet someone who had either visited Hoboken, had a relative living in Hoboken, or who knew of Hoboken’s history, which led to many delightful conversations about my adopted city in far away places,” she says. “By inserting my Hoboken photographs within images of foreign windows, doorways or archways, I have combined travel memories with local scenes.”
