Hoboken Democratic Social Club honors former State Senator Bernard Kenny

On Sunday, three dozen people gathered for a brunch at the Paul Vincent gallery showing to honor former State Senator Bernard Kenny.

Among the native son honoree, a notable list of elected officials: Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise,  Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer, Assemblywoman Annette Chaparro, Freeholder Anthony "Stick" Romano and council members Ravi Bhalla, Mike DeFusco and Jim Doyle.

While the event was off the record and MSV can't disclose details of the numerous remarks made to the audience in attendance (after all we're not the NY Times) there was quite a bit of reflection on Senator Kenny's sage advice and support, both personal and professional from the speakers.

Since it's St. Patrick's season here, a personal reflection on Irish immigration from the time of the famine and succeeding generations highlighted the struggle for survival while preserving the cultural identity both in the United States and other Irish destinations.

Former State Senator Bernard Kenny poses with the plaque honoring him from the  Hoboken Democratic Social Club with his law partners at Sunday's brunch.

Bernard Kenny addresses the attendees and spoke about Irish immigration and his family's roots.

Mayor Dawn Zimmer and County Freeholder Anthony "Stick" Romano share lighthearted chatter.

Councilman, my councilman. A claque of council members past and present: Councilman Ravi Bhalla, Councilman Mike DeFusco and former councilman Tim Occhipinti with Stan Grossbard enjoy some late brunch banter.
