BoE trustee - applications now accepted

The summer resignation of BoE trustee Monica Stromwall not only falls in the down time of the school season; it means a full year term for an unknown replacement.

The timing of the resignation means whoever fills the trustee chair will get to see a full year of work on the Board of Education without facing voters. It's like extending a full year of spring training and making a Major League baseball roster.

With the November election, there's actually four seats at stake on the nine member board in the immediate future.

An advertisement per the BoE bylaws is required in several publications this week including the Star Ledger, the Jersey Journal and the Bayonne based Hudson Reporter in the coming week.

Part of the ad will detail the following:

If you are a registered voter seeking to serve in this position, please submit your one-page resume and/or a one-page cover letter explaining why you should be chosen to the Board Secretary by Thursday, September 8, 2016.

Applications can be delivered by hand or mailed to 158 Fourth Street, faxed to 201-356-3642 or e-mailed to the Board Secretary (wmoffitt@hoboken.k12.nj.us). All those who submit applications as above may be interviewed at a future board meeting at which time they will be able to speak on their own behalf.

For those interested in the trustee seat on the Board of Education, this is an opportunity. The pay is not very good - there's no pay at all.

The position offers no health benefits, no free phones, lunches, dinners or NJ pension benefits.

The application process replacing Monica Stromwall on the Board of Education
means a one year tryout. Applications are being accepted.
