Tonight's the Night!

The Great Debate: Young Republicans Versus Young Democrats

Hudson County, NJ – The Hudson County Young Democrats and Young Republicans (YD’s and YR’s respectively) are proud to announce a bi-partisan collaboration to enlighten and educate the community on their different points of view on issues facing the world, the nation, and the state of New Jersey.

The debate will feature two representatives of each group and be moderated by Mark Bonamo, formerly of the Hudson Reporter and Politickernj.com. The event will consist of 3 parts: a happy hour meet and greet, a debate of pre-selected issues, followed by a question and answer session with the audience. Proceeds from the event will go to local Hoboken non-profit True Mentors (www.truementors.org).

The event is Monday October 17 at Willie McBrides, 616 Grand Street, Hoboken NJ. Happy hour begins at 6:30PM with the debate starting at 7:30PM. Ticket price is $10 and can be purchased at the door.  All proceeds from ticket sales will go to True Mentors.

The HCYR chairman Joshua Sotomayor-Einstein stated they are “thrilled to engage our Democrat brothers in a dialogue about where our nation and state is going” adding that “it will be an epic battle of ideas that will benefit the community.” HCYD president Brian Platt, said “well-informed voters are crucial to an effective democracy”, adding further “we are hoping that this event will inspire meaningful discussions around some of our most pressing issues.”

Both groups hope to bring together members of the community from across the political spectrum in what has been for both parties, a divisive presidential election.  Organizers look forward to highlighting their policy differences in an engaging and meaningful way.

Board of Education forum this Thursday at the Hoboken Elks Lodge

QLC announces:

Quality of Life Coalition’s Board of Education Candidates Forum Set for Thursday, Oct. 20, 6:30 p.m. at the Hoboken Elks Lodge

The Hoboken Quality of Life Coalition is pleased to invite all Hoboken residents to its 2016 Board of Education candidates’ forum, continuing a tradition the Coalition has maintained for over a decade. These forums give Hoboken voters an opportunity to hear directly from the candidates running for the three open seats on the Board of Education in the November 8, 2016, election. This year’s forum will take place on Thursday, October 20, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 1005 Washington Street.

These events are arranged by the Hoboken Quality of Life Coalition, Inc., and moderated by Bob Bowdon, a professional interviewer and longtime resident of Hoboken, who has expertly conducted QLC-sponsored forums over the last eight years. These events have consistently presented a lively exchange of policy ideas, opinions and comments on issues that the voters themselves consider the most important.

Written questions will be solicited from the audience and submitted to a panel, who will select the clearest and most concise questions on a wide range of topics. Candidates will have a minute and a half to respond to each question, and a one-minute rebuttal will be allowed with permission from the moderator. Each candidate will have an opportunity to make one-minute opening introductory and closing remarks, and a timekeeper will ensure that time limits are respected in answering questions.
