Hi MSV readers, With spring upon us, I'm pleased to let you know about some free outdoor activities and new programs offered by our cultural affairs department.
Fitness in the Park
Due to popular demand, we've expanded Fitness in the Park! The free and popular fitness classes take place four nights a week at Pier A Park, the 14th Street Viaduct and Maxwell Park and run through the end of September. Whether you're trying yoga or pilates for the first time or are looking for an additional workout, come enjoy a fitness class with some of Hoboken's top instructors!
Movies under the Stars
Bring a lawn chair and blanket and check out our Movies Under the Stars at Pier A! Starting June 14, we're showing movies on the big screen every Wednesday throughout the summer. And, we're now expanding to Maxwell Park, where we'll be screening Frozen on August 30, as well as Mama Johnson Field where Ice Age: Collision Course will run on August 21. Thanks to your input, movies at Pier A will include Hidden Figures, La La Land, Lion, Trolls, The Boss Baby, Sing, The Beatles: Eight Days a Week, and Singin' in the Rain.
Concerts and Theater in the Park
The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra is returning to Hoboken for the seventh consecutive year and will deliver a performance at Maxwell Park on June 29. Other performances include the annual Sinatra Idol contest, a Beatles tribute band, Swingadelic, and more. Our Storybook Theater, a kid favorite where stories are brought to life through song, dance, poetry and drama, is also back once again!
For the sixth consecutive year, we're co-sponsoring our Irish festival with Irish Network New Jersey on May 13 at Sinatra Park (12-6 pm). The festival will include performances from Gold N’ Brown, Colin Nisbet, Garden St. Irish Step Dancers & Emerald Fire, and Kerri Smith Academy of Irish Dance, food and Irish vendors, activities for children including a petting zoo, and an Irish soda bread contest.
Arts and Music Festival
Our Arts and Music Festival returns Sunday, June 11. Due to the Washington Street construction, the festival will take place on Washington Street between 8th and 14th Streets.
